A Look Back

Image
Every session of PPD brought its share of fun and knowledge to us. But back in 2 years how many of us could have imagined that the word “PPD” would influence us to this extent. So, this article is to have a look back in what we learned from PPD. As I remember 2 years ago without a big hesitation I started to learn PPD. “Personal Progress Development” according to me was a useless subject those days. But after attending 2 or 3 sessions I started to love it. I tried to find the interest on it. I started to like this more than many other boring lectures we had. It did not take me much time to realize that developing inner skills is important as much as having academic skills to build my career.  PPD was a great platform to develop my soft skills. Among the many things I learnt so far from PPD, it has taught us to, how to perfectly manage our time how to work as team how to be a good leader how to negotiate with others how to manage thing in stressful times ...

Out bound training

Image
The Journey begins here!!! This was an amazing training program that I have ever participated. It was at Naval and Maritime Academy shortly named as NMA. NMA plays the most prominent role by imparting professional training for both Officers and Senior / Junior ratings in Sri Lanka Navy (SLN). The Academy is situated within the picturesque Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee. Therefore, it was quite a long journey and we got the chance to spend two days there. Day 1 We reached the camp there around 10 a.m. and after welcoming us we were offered a delicious lunch. After the lunch, we were divided into groups, "Alpha", "Bravo", "Delta" and "Charlie". They have planned several activities for us. First one was to go through a small rectangle made with ropes. But the catch is if we touch the rope then we die and any one holding you at that time also dies. We had to have a good strategic plan as to how to go through the rectangle and ev...

Art of living

Image
This day, not as other days we had a complete different PPD Session. The session was coloured by a special person known as Dr.Ajith Colonne. Dr.Colonne is a person who has devoted himself in educating the school children, youth and the general public, at an honorary capacity. The topic he spoke on this day is “Art of living”. According to him When We Think about art of living - there is an art to everything and living well is no exception. Of any art, this would be the one to master since it encompasses all the others. The art of living well is to make your life an expression of who you are , what you believe, and your hopes, dreams and desires. Of course, to create your life as a work of art is an ongoing, evolving, and creative endeavor. And so, it should be. As he said we can make our life a work of art by doing several things such as; 1. Make each moment count and live it to the fullest. 2. Establish an open, accepting and appreciative mindset. ...

Beauty of my second home

Image
No words can express the radiance of the blooming May flowers and beauty of birdsong that portrayed a symbol of warm welcome to the new entrants. All the beginners who arrived in numbers were received by the seniors with warm cordiality. It was obligatory for freshmen to be clad in white during the first two or three weeks and opted to use our own choice of dress later. Actually this a small memory I will never ever forget about my very first day to step in our university. So after that I was a part of this huge family and being under the roof of Kelani mother I was so proud as this one of the beautiful place I have seen in my life. So today I want to share about my university mother with you. The University of Kelaniya has its origin in the historic Vidyalankara Pirivena,  founded in 1875 by Ratmalane Sri Dharmaloka Thera  as a center of learning for Buddhist monks. With the establishment of modern universities in Sri Lanka in the 1940s and 1950s, the Vidyalankar...

Dream Trip

Image
Though we were asked to write about our dream trip, as a passionate traveler this topic made me go around the whole world just in few seconds. One day I want to travel and explore those beautiful places in the world not with my love, but myself only. Out of a lengthy list, I have selected a few of my dreams to share with you. Oia, Santorini, Greece Located on top of a cliff with a spectacular view of the Palea volcano, Nea Kameni, and the island of Thirassia, Oia is the most popular and arguably the most beautiful of all the picturesque villages of the beautiful Greek island of Santorini. Oia will charm you with its traditional stone houses lining the narrow streets, breathtaking blue-domed churches, and sun-baked verandas. While the village has its share of taverns, souvenir shops, and cafes, Oia is more quiet and laid-back than busy Fira and most people enjoy its quaint beauty by slowly exploring its narrow streets. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia Located about halfway between ...

No way to new way

Image
This activity is a one which slightly deviates from other fun activities. The activity is related to us in a brilliant way as an undergraduate who looks for a career in near future. ‘No way to new way’ is an activity which is done by a group of three people who skilled in different areas. The triplet should discuss the area which they experts in and make a new innovative business plan which suits for all three fields. When making the plan the team should concentrate on the way to make money out of their business and as well as whether the business they need to develop is a realistic one. And at last the team should give a name to their new business which is well suited for all three areas. ‘No way to new way’ is a very applicable activity to our lives because when we get a tough period we can think differently and face those challenges thinking that they are the real things which make us stronger. So basically, this activity builds up many skills of the participants such as; ...

The Game Barter Puzzle

Image
These activities are sometimes referred to as ‘lateral-thinking’ exercises, in which one or more people attempt to solve a seemingly insurmountable problem. Fun team building puzzles come in a wide variety of formats and may include purely cognitive problems or mysteries to solve, or physical challenges involving limited resources which are needed to complete the task. Generally passive in nature, many team-building puzzles offer valuable teachable moments which invite participants to apply their learning to everyday situations. How to play 👉👉🎮🎮 Break your team into groups of equal members. Give each team a distinctly different jigsaw puzzle of equal difficulty. Explain that they have a set amount of time to complete the puzzle as a group. Explain that some of the pieces in their puzzle belong to the other puzzles in the room. The goal is to complete their puzzle before the other groups, and that they must come up with their own method of convincing the othe...

PPD - Personal Progress Development

Image
“WHAT WE FEAR OF DOING MOST IS USUALLY WHAT WE MOST NEED TO DO.”  ~ RALPH WALDO EMERSON  ~ Furthermore, Fear is not your enemy. I t is a compass pointing you to the areas where you need to grow. When your mind begins to fear something, take note. We’re not talking about ridiculous fears. If a wild bear is staring you down, I wouldn’t recommend walking towards it. But the little things that you fear daily, often dealing with money, weight loss, etc.. are incredibly important to learn how to deal with head on. I challenge you to think of this quote each time you fear something for the next week. Start to believe that your inner fears are simply a compass showing you the way to a better life and see where it takes you. Personal Progress Development   helps us to get rid of  these fears and to be stronger. Why Personal Progress Development important to us? Landing a job requires a lot more than just the right degree, experience or ser...
